(Lake Park)– The Lake Park Fire Department was called to a house fire early this morning.
Firefighters were called to the Tom Weltzin residence at 502 Market Street around 2:00 a.m.
Assistant chief Jeff Rolfes tells KUOO news smoke was coming from an attic vent when firefighters arrived. He says they took down a ceiling in the kitchen and removed some smouldering insulation. Considerable smoke damage was contained to the kitchen with minor smoke damage to the rest of the lower level of the home.
Rolfes says the Weltzins, who were home at the time, were awakened by the smell of smoke and discovered their power was off. They called the fire department and got out uninjured.
Rolfes says it’s believed an electrical short circuit caused the fire.
The Lake Park Fire Department was at the scene for about an hour and-a-half this morning.
