Lake Park House Heavily Damaged By Fire

November 23, 2014

(Lake Park)– The State Fire Marshall’s office says an improperly-discarded smoking instrument caused a house fire yesterday in Lake Park.

Firefighters were called to the Steve Clayton residence at 401 Avenue “D” east shortly after 9:00 a.m.

Assistant Fire Chief Al Detlefson says the crew was at the scene for about an hour and-a-half. He described the house as a total loss. Detlefson says a back bedroom, where the fire started, was totally destroyed…with extensive smoke and water damage to the rest of the structure.

The State Fire Marshall’s investigation determined the fire started in a trash can or pile of clothes in the bedroom.
