Lake Park Considers City Administrator Position

November 22, 2014

(Lake Park)– A proposal to hire a City Administrator in Lake Park is gaining support.

City councilman Lance Heikens tells KUOO news a committee of two council members and two Utility Board members has been meeting in recent weeks. He says they’ve drawn up a proposed job description for the position. Heikens says the City Administrator would oversee daily operations of both city staff and the utility staff as well as the community’s day-to-day operations.

Heikens says all of the rapid growth in the community has led to the need for someone to make sure things are taking place in a coordinated fashion. He sites the Silver Shores Development, West Bay subdivision, the new school and community center, and additional land acquired by the Community Development Corporation to expand the city’s industrial park as examples.

A public hearing on the City Administrator proposal was held Thursday evening. Heikens says the feedback was positive.

Heikens says the committee will now further refine the requirements for the position. After that, he says they’ll start accepting applications, with the goal of having the position filled by July 1st of this year.
