Kibbie Elected Senate President

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– Legislative Democrats have elected their new leaders as they look ahead to the next session where the Senate will be evenly divided.

The 25 Senate Democrats gave Senate Democratic Leader Michael Gronstal of Council Bluffs another term as Floor Leader. They also elected Senator Jack Kibbie of Emmetsburg as Senate President.

With the Senate split at 25, Democrats and Republicans have worked out a power sharing agreement.

Under the agreement, committees will have an equal number of Republicans and Democrats and will be headed by co-chairs from each party.

There also will be floor leaders from each party and each party will have a Senate President.

Details of that position haven’t been decided.

Republicans are scheduled to vote on their leadership next Friday.
