(Emmetsburg)– A local lawmaker doesn’t expect much debate on any proposal to re-vamp Iowa’s bottle law in the upcoming legislative session. State Senator Jack Kibbie says it will probably come up in committee, but doesn’t think it will go much further.
The grocery industry has been pushing hard for a change…saying the stores should be exempt from being drop-offs because of health concerns. Kibbie says until a system of establishing redemption centers is established for each county in the state, debate on such a change would be useless.
Among those who responded to our latest Explore Okoboji online poll, 66 percent said grocery stores should continue to be required to accept cans and bottles while 34 percent said they should not.
