(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors this (Fri.) morning set July 8th as the date for a referendum on gaming in the county.
Polls will be open that day from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Any Dickinson county resident who’s registered to vote is eligible to cast a ballot in the July 8th election. Any Dickinson county resident who isn’t registered that would like to vote in the election has until June 27th to do so.
County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Nancy Reiman, says they’ll start accepting requests for absentee ballots in the next week or so. She says the ballots aren’t here yet as they were just ordered.
Under Iowa law the supervisors had to schedule the vote for a Tuesday between June 10th and July 8th.
The supervisors were legally obligated to schedule the election as the result of a petition calling for a vote that was filed with the County Auditor’s Office late Monday afternoon.
