Jackson County Central Students Protest Budget Cuts

November 22, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– A member of the student council at Jackson County Central High School says students are planning a letter-writing campaign to the Minnesota Legislature to protest budget cuts in the art, business and music departments.

Junior Chris Love says many students are outraged by the cuts, which prompted a sit-in by about 120 students Friday outside the Jackson County Central School Administrative Office.

JCC Superintendent Gery Arndt listened to students’ questions and concerns during the 45-minute sit-in. He says the school plans to cut five teaching positions and an assistant principal, which will mean dropping both the Art and Business departments.

The JCC school board approved the cuts last week.
