Jackson County Authorities Release Name Of Fatality Victim

(Jackson, Mn.)– Authorities in Jackson county have released the name of a person killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident.

The victim is identified as 16-year-old Lance Cowell of St. James, Minnesota. He was a passenger in a car driven by 16-year-old Lacey Hayostek of rural St. James that collided with another car driven by Kay DeWall of rural Brewster.

Hayostek was taken by ambulance to Worthington Regional Hospital and was transferred to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls where she is listed in critical condition.

DeWall and two grandchildren who were passengers in the vehicle she was driving were taken to the Worthington Regional Hospital. Kay DeWall was held for observation; the children, five-month-old Haley DeWall and three-year-old Emma DeWall, were treated and released.

The crash took place around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on Jackson County Road 20 about a mile and-a-half east of Highway 60. The crash remains under investigation.
