(Jackson, Mn.)– Jackson county authorities have released more details into a shooting that took place Thursday night that claimed the life of a Spirit Lake man.
The victim is identified as 34-year-old Ervin Gaylord Berg of Spirit Lake.
His girlfriend, 39-year-old Suzanne McNulty of rural Lakefield, was arrested on probable murder. She’s being held at the Jackson County Law Enforcement Center pending official charges. McNulty is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
A news release from Jackson County Attorney Robert O’Connor says McNulty has admitted to holding a 12 gauge shotgun when it went off, striking Berg in the throat.
The release goes on to say that Berg and McNulty had been in a relationship for several months.
The incident took place at a farmstead in Hunter Township of rural Jackson county, south of Lakefield. Authorities say the owner of the farm place had allowed McNulty to stay there while he was away driving a truck. The owner discovered Berg’s body when he returned Friday morning. Authorities were called to the scene around 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Authorities say formal charges against McNulty are pending completion of reports by investigators from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and testing by Forensics Doctors with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.
