IRRMA Museum Completes Expansion Project

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s museum in Arnolds Park is seeing an increase in visitors as summer winds down.

Doris Welle, the association’s Exeuctive Director, tells KUOO news they, like other attractions in the lakes area, experienced a slow start to the season as a result of abnormally cool weather. But she says things have picked up considerably since the Fourth of July. Not only to they have better weather to site for the increase, but Welle says their recently completed expansion is also drawing a lot of people.

She says the 200 square feet of additional space has allowed them to bring in some new exhibits…including one known as “Big Bertha”…a large amplifier system; more clothing and costumes from various bands; and posters from bands and ballrooms. Welle says their goal is to get atleast one poster from each ballroom that existed in Iowa in the 1950’s.

Even with the expansion, Welle says they still don’t have enough room to display everything they’d like. Talk of building a larger museum onto the Okoboji Spirit Center…the same building that houses the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum…has been put on hold until a more certain future is known for the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.
