Iowa’s First Lady To Visit Spencer

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The first lady of Iowa will be in Spencer this week to celebrate the completion of a community project.

The project was started by the Spencer Public Library last summer to become a “stories 2000 community” in Iowa. The program was started last August by Christie Vilsack to bring communities together with the help of their local library.

The first phase of the project included meetings with hispanic families in the area to find out what their needs are. Librarian Vicki Myron says the project was initially aimed at businesses and organizations to find interpreters and document translators to assist hispanic customers in a more effective way. Myron says a list of those has been compiled and will be made available Tuesday to those businesses and organizations who would like to have it.

Completion of the project will be celebrated with a luncheon Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Spencer Library. Christie Vilsack will be the keynote speaker.
