(Estherville)– A scholarship honoring Captain Al Haynes, pilot of United Flight 232 that crashlanded in Sioux City in 1989, is being offered to aviation students at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Captain Haynes was a guest speaker at the college’s Senior Fun and Wellness Day earlier this year.
Aviation Program Coordinator Ron Duer says an anonymous donation was made on Hayne’s behalf to start up the program.
Students interested in applying for the one-thousand dollar scholarship should do so by August 20th. Applicants should have completed atleast one semester in the Iowa Lakes Aviation Program.
