Iowa D-O-T Focus Group To Meet In Spencer

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Long range transportation planning and financing will be the topic of a meeting the Iowa Department of Transportation will hold next week in Spencer.

Stuart Anderson of the D-O-T’s Office of Systems Planning says the meetings are being held at nine sites throughout the state. The meeting for northwest Iowa will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30th at the Hotel in downtown Spencer.

Anderson says D-O-T commissioners are holding the meetings to give the public an opportunity to review and comment on a study done by Doctor David Forkenbroch of the University of Iowa’s Public Policy Center. The study looks at how transportation investments impact the state and the quality of life. It also makes recommendations on alternative investment strategies.

Anderson says D-O-T commissioners will consider Forkenbrock’s recommendations when they update the state’s long-range transportation projects.

Anderson says 20 to 25 people have been invited to participate in a focus group discussion. It includes local transportation providers, local government officials, business leaders, those with agricultural and environmental interests, and others.

The meeting in Spencer is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30th at the Hotel.
