Investigators Determine Arson As Cause Of SL House Fire

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Authorities say a fire that heavily damaged a Spirit Lake house Sunday evening was intentionally set and has been ruled arson.

Spirit Lake Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says an investigation by Dave Schipper of the State Fire Marshall’s Office indicates an accelerant was used to start the fire at 2206 Gary Avenue. Jorgenson says it appears to be gasoline.

Jorgenson says at this time neither the owner or renter of the property are under investigation. The house, owned by Dan Wingert of Spirit Lake, was being rented by Cory Morrow. Morrow wasn’t home at the time and there were no injuries.

Firefighters found fire coming from the north side of the structure when they arrived around 7:00 p.m.

Anyone with any information on the fire is asked to contact the Spirit Lake Police Department at 336-5776 or the arson hotline at 1-800-532-1459.

An investigation is ongoing.
