Investigation Gets Underway Into Emmet Co. Grass Fires

November 22, 2014

(Wallingford)– Authorities in Emmet county believe some grass fires Wednesday near Wallingford were intentionally set.

Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says firefighters were called to the intersection of county roads N40 and A34 east of Wallingford. Upon arriving Fischer says they found three different fires burning in that area. While one of the blazes wasn’t threatening any personal property, the other two were. Fischer says one was threatening to spread into a wooded area near Ingham Lake. He says firefighters were able to extinguish it before it could get that far.

Fischer says winds gusting to 35 miles-per-hour hampered efforts to battle the fires.

Fischer adds the State Fire Marshall has been contacted as an investigation gets underway.

The Wallingford Fire Department was assisted by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and Emmet County Emergency Management.
