(Alton)– An investigation continues into a two-vehicle crash in Sioux county earlier this week that left a highway closed for several hours.
According to the Sheriff’s Office the collision happened Tuesday shortly after midnight on the new four-lane Highway 60 bypass near Alton.
Joshua Bosma of Sanborn fell asleep behind the wheel of his car and awoke in time to avoid striking the guardrail on the Floyd River bridge. Bosma then lost control of his vehicle and entered the path of a northbound semi driven by Scott Curtis of Table Rock, Nebraska.
Curtis swerved to avoid hitting Bosma’s vehicle. The semi rolled onto its side and skidded across the bridge. Part of the trailer was hanging over the railing of the bridge while part of the load fell into the river.
Both men were taken to the Orange City hospital for treatment of what’s described as minor injuries.
That portion of Highway 60 was closed to traffic through Noon Tuesday.
Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
