Interstate Power & Light Unveils New Energy Plan

(Des Moines)– Interstate Power and Light Company has unveiled a new energy plan that includes a new power plant and more wind energy in Iowa.

I-P-and-L, the Iowa division of Alliant Energy Corporation, says it’s selling it’s transmission assets in Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois to a subsidiary of I-T-C Holdings Corporation for 750 million dollars in cash.

I-P-and-L says it anticipates proceeds from the sale will be used to help fund its development plan, which includes investments in a new power plant in Marshalltown and additional wind power resources.

The company plans to request approval from the Iowa Utilities Board later this year to build a 600 megawatt plant next to an existing plant.

It’s also pursuing sites for the development of atleast 100 megawatts of wind energy in Iowa. The company is reviewing sites in Dickinson, Emmet and Franklin counties.
