Improvements Proposed For Spirit Lake Park

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some major improvements could be in store for Spirit Lake’s Gilbert Park. The city council last evening directed staff to apply for a “REAP” grant through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. It would help fund the construction of a shelter house along with sidewalks, picnic tables, grills, benches, volleyball court and trees. 75-thousand dollars is the maximum cities the size of Spirit Lake are eligible to receive in REAP grants. The city would pick up the rest of the cost. The proposed project has a total estimated cost of 198-thousand dollars.
