Improvement Association Calls For Increased Bridge Heights

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A newly formed protective association in the Iowa Great Lakes wants the heights of two bridges in Arnolds Park increased.

The Three Lakes Improvement Association’s board of directors voted unanimously earlier this month to ask the minimum heights of the Trigg’s and Sawmill bridges be increased so they’re the same distance above the water as the railroad bridge between East and West Lakes Okoboji.

The bridges on Linden Drive and Rohr Street in Arnolds Park are scheduled for replacement over the next several years.

Among other things, the association says people living on the three lakes should be able to enjoy the lakes in the boat of their choice.

The request is likely to meet opposition from some other protective associations. They’re concerned large boats may be to blame for increased water quality problems, even though an official study into that hasn’t been done.

City officials are concerned over the added cost of raising the structures.
