Improved Weather Allows Sonar Operations To Resume

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Improved weather conditions this (Tues.) afternoon allowed a side scan sonar specialist from Idaho to resume operations in the ongoing search for 12-year-old Collin Helmers of Estherville.

Helmers, along with 31-year-old Matthew Molacek of Wallingford, were on a dock barge that sank a week ago last Saturday on West Lake Okoboji. Molacek’s body was recovered a couple of days after the accident.

Gene Ralston of Ralston and Associates has been in the lakes area since Saturday. He began his operations Sunday, but had to suspend them Monday and again this (Tues.) morning due to the weather.

Winds finally subsided this afternoon allowing the operations to resume.
