Illegals Sentenced In U.S. District Court

November 22, 2014

(Sioux City)– A mexican man who illegally entered the U.S. and had been living for a time in Sibley has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Sioux City.

23-year-old Pastor Mendez-Sanchez pled guilty September 15th to one count of illegally re-entering the U.S. He was sentenced to seven months imprisonment and must serve a one-year term of supervised release following the prison term.

Mendez-Sanchez was originally arrested on July 27th of this year in Osceola county on a charge of domestic abuse assault.

Another man from Mexico, 21-year-old Alex Perez-Martinez, was also sentenced earlier this week for illegally re-entering the U.S. He pled guilty to the charge on July 22nd of this year.

At the plea hearing, Perez-Martinez admitted he illegally re-entered the U.S. from Mexico after being deported in January of 2009 following a December 4th, 2008 conviction for identity theft in Sioux county.

He was arrested May 7th of this year by the Sioux Center Police Department for public intoxication and obstructing prosecution.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says both men will be subject to removal from the U.S. after they complete their prison sentences.
