ILEC Issues Energy Alert

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– All of that heat and humidity is putting a drain on electric utilities.

Rick Olson, Operations Manager for Estherville-based Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, tells KUOO news they’ve issued an energy alert for their customers. Olson says they aren’t worried about running out of electricity, but he says the higher demand will push up prices, so they’re urging residents to refrain as much as possible from using large appliances in the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Residents are also urged to bump up their thermostats to 80 degrees, and to keep shades drawn.
