(Estherville)– Iowa Lakes Community College is the recipient of a significant donation from a company that makes wind turbines.
It was announced at Tuesday’s board of trustees meeting Vestas, a major manufacturer of wind turbines, has donated a state-of-the-art turbine, known as a “nachelle”. It will be on a platform on a cement slab for training for the college’s wind turbine technology program. It will allow students to learn how the turbine works without having to climb up a 70 meter tower. The equipment is valued at 1.5 million dollars.
ILCC trustees also Tuesday voted to sell some excess space in the Gateway North Mall in Spencer to the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Unit for 500-dollars, following a legal review.
The board also accepted a bid to demolish a building the college owns on Highway 18 in Emmetsburg. The building is no longer used and is in poor condition.
