(Emmetsburg)– Iowa Lakes Community College has been awarded a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation to enhance biotechnology curriculum.
Tom Brotherton, Dean of the Emmetsburg campus of ILCC, says the 737-thousand dollar grant project is based on four areas: animal agriculture, plant agriculture, health care and biomass energy.
Brotherton says the project will have a national impact and result in the development of an integrated biotechnology education model that can be replicated by others in education and industry.
A partnership of 12 high schools, four community colleges and three universities will pilot the curriculum. After initial development and evaluation of the courses, the data will be diseminated to other faculty through the National Science Foundation’s websites. In addition, project faculty will present the results at national and regional conferences.
