IGL Summer Chamber Festival Gearing Up For Another Season

April 23, 2026

(Arnolds Park)– This will be the third summer for performances under the Iowa Great Lakes Summer Chamber Festival and Katey Jahnke (Yawnkey) who is part of the quintet that will be performing says they always look forward to these performances…

“We have been coming into the area. We’ve been in residency at Lakeside Lab, actually on and off for a number of years. Our first year was actually in 2022. We’ve been really fortunate that we’ve kind of created a great partnership with that organization with Mary for allowing us to come up and use their facilities, but also to be part of their Tuesday night lecture series. But as the years have gone on, we started to add more and more performances as well as outreach in the region. And so this year, we’re being funded by the Iowa Arts Project Grant, which is actually been given to us by the Iowa Arts Council, the Iowa Economic Development Authority, and the National Endowment for the Arts.”

Jahnke talks about what Wild Prairie Winds is…

“The Wild Prairie Winds is what they call a wind quintet. And so it has flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and the French horn. And so we are technically a classical music ensemble. And so that is the type of music that we will perform. However, we don’t play standard classical music, as you would expect, like Mozart or Beethoven or Bach. We actually like to choose music specifically for this festival. That is what we would call more accessible, where we’re playing music that’s based on themes of the area.”

The performances start on Tuesday May 26th at the Lakeside Laboratory at 7:00. On Thursday they will be at the Little Swan Lake Winery from 6:00 to 8:00 and then at the Milford Memorial Library on Friday from 10:00 until 11:30.
