Ida County Reels From Three Deaths This Week

November 23, 2014

(Ida Grove)– Ida county residents are reeling from the deaths of three people this week.

Sheriff Wade Harriman says 52-year-old Brett Wehde of Early died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. His body was found Thanksgiving Day in a cemetary north of Holstein. Harriman says a search warrant at Wehde’s home turned up four letters that said Wehde wasn’t able to cope with the death of his son, Dustin Wehde, who was fatally shot by an Early woman last December.

In another incident, 15-year-old Evan Bengford of Ida Grove was fatally shot in a hunting accident Thanksgiving Day.

And 22-year-old Raymond Gossage Junior, of Charter Oak was found unconscious Wednesday by a co-worker at a hog confinement operation near Arthur. Authorities say it appears Gossage died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Sheriff Harriman says a power washer in a poorly ventilated bathroom was the apparent cause.
