Humane Society Of Northwest Iowa Names New Director

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa has a new Director.

Kate Whitrock of Arnolds Park has been working in that capacity for about two weeks now. Whitrock says her primary responsibilities are to oversee the operation of the Humane Society’s animal shelter north of Milford. She says they’ve been busy cleaning, organizing records and setting up a new volunteer program with a coordinator.

Whitrock says she’ll also be emphasizing public education and the importance of having pets spayed and neutered. For example, in the past week alone Whitrock says she would have taken in more than 50 cats if she would have accepted every one that she got calls on.

Whitrock says she’ll be working on getting donations to keep the facility operational. She adds they’ll be conducting a membership drive in February.

The Humane Society shelter is open from 12 Noon until 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Whitrock says they’ll be extending the hours next month.

She says they’re also looking for volunteers to help groom and walk the animals.

As of right now Whitrock says they have an excellent selection of cats and dogs. She says many of the dogs they currently have are already housebroken.
