(Lake Park)– It’s official–the old school building in Harris has a date with the wrecking ball.
Superintendent Tim Christiansen says the Harris-Lake Park school board Thursday evening awarded a bid to tear down the building to a Sibley firm. The gymnasium will stay for now. Christiansen says the Harris Economic Development Commission will have two weeks to come up with a formal proposal to save the gym. If they don’t, it will be demolished as well.
The bid to tear down just the classroom part of the building was nearly 72-thousand dollars. If the gym is torn down as well, the total cost will come to slightly more than 92-thousand dollars.
The Harris-Lake Park school board awarded the bid to tear down the school following a public hearing.
Demolition is to get underway in the next two to three weeks, following an asbestos abatement.
