HLP Board Decides To Stay With Current AEA

November 23, 2014

(Lake Park)– The Harris-Lake Park school district is going to remain affiliated with the Area Education Agency Areas three and five when a merger between the two is finalized a year from now.

Superintendent Tim Christiansen says the school board made that decision earlier this week after meeting with administrators from AEA three and five and the neighboring AEA to the west, area four. Christiansen says the board had concerns over logistics. The newly combined AEA three and five will be headquartered out of Fort Dodge; AEA Four is headquartered out of Sioux Center. But Christiansen says the board decided to stay with the current AEA after learning there will still be a satellite office in Spirit Lake.

School districts have until early next month to decide whether or not to opt out of the current AEA that will be included in the merger.
