(Spirit Lake)– Most of the barricades have been hauled away, but Hill Avenue South in Spirit Lake remains closed to through traffic. And an engineer overseeing the project for the city told the city council Tuesday he has no idea when the project will be completed and the road officially reopened.
Mark Cotter of the Howard R. Greene firm told the council the general contractor still has a lot of details that need to be done, and some items still need to be corrected. Among them, Cotter says, is a problem with the stoplights at 28th Street; signage; the irrigation system which has a large leak in it; and some painting…among other things.
The project was originally slated for completion October 9th. The general contractor was granted a two week extension, which ran out October 23rd. Cotter reported the contractor is being penalized financially for each day the project goes on beyond the October 23rd date.
Hill Avenue South has been closed since last March, but many motorists are now driving around the barricades.
