Hill Avenue South Project To Start

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Anyone travelling on Hill Avenue in Spirit Lake between 23rd and 30th streets will need to find an alternative route starting Thursday.

Public Works Director Todd Dolphin tells KUOO news the Hill Avenue South Reconstruction Project will officially get underway Thursday when crews start removing pavement. Dolphin says the work will start on the south end of the project…near the Elementary School…and progress north.

Eventually the project will extend all the way north to 19th Street. But for now Dolphin says the work will be concentrated between 23rd and 30th Streets. He says the contractor requested to start on the south side of the project because there are fewer utilities there that have to be relocated. He says they hope to have that part of the project paved in June or July.

Motorists…especially those trying to get to the schools…will need to use an alternative route. Dolphin recommends using Erie Avenue to access the east side of the High School, and Erie Avenue and 28th Street to access the Elementary and Middle Schools.

Hill Avenue south will remain off-limits to through traffic until sometime in October…when the project is slated for completion.

Dolphin says for now atleast they’ll try to maintain temporary access to those living along Hill Avenue.

Dolphin says they’ll be updating the public on a weekly basis through the duration of the project.
