Highway 18 Collision Injures Three

November 22, 2014

(Boyden)– A two-vehicle collision Saturday on Highway 18 a mile east of Boyden in Sioux county injured three people.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 63-year-old Edwin Baartman of Boyden was westbound when he crossed the centerline and collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by 85-year-old Adriana Boender of Sheldon.

Baartman received minor injuries but refused treatment on the scene. Adriana Boender and a passenger in her vehicle, 90-year-old Lucretia Boender of Sheldon, were taken by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital with what was described as non-life threatening injuries.

Damage to a 2005 Buick driven by Baartman was estimated at 10-thousand dollars; a 1996 Mercury driven by Boender sustained an estimated nine thousand dollars in damage.

Baartman was cited for failure to yield half the roadway.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assiste by the Iowa State Patrol, Boyden Fire and Ambulance and the Sheldon ambulance.

The collision took place around 8:25 a.m. Saturday.
