(Brookings, S.D.)– A two-vehicle accident in eastern South Dakota has claimed two lives…including that of an Okoboji woman. The victims are identified as 23-year-old Ann Birt of Okoboji and 57-year-old Lisbet Cook of Madison, South Dakota.
The Brookings county, South Dakota Sheriff’s Office says the mishap took place last evening about five miles south of Brookings on Interstate 29.
They say a pickup driven by Cook was traveling south in the northbound lane and collided head-on with a car driven by Birt.
Birt’s husband, Tracy, is the assistant Okoboji football coach. Ann was a sponsor for the Okoboji High School cheerleading squad.
School officials are reportedly contemplating changes in this week’s homecoming schedule…but so far nothing has been announced officially.
