Head Of IDED Addresses Community Leaders At Okoboji Meeting

November 23, 2014

The Director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development met today (Tuesday) with local officials at a gathering in Okoboji.

Michael Blouin was touting Governor Vilsack’s 500 million dollar plan to attract high-tech jobs to the state. Blouin says the days of “shotgunning economic development” are over. He says it’s important economic development efforts focus on growth industries that create wealth…in terms of corporate, business growth and the kinds of jobs that allow individuals to have a good way of life with a decent income.

Blouin also talked about the governor’s plans to simplify Iowa’s tax structure. Blouin says inconsistencies in the state’s sales tax laws need to be addressed, and the income tax needs to be simplified by going to a percent of federal taxes.
