(Undated)– Combines are a common sight these days as the harvest kicks into high gear.
Paul Kassel, a crops specialist with the Iowa State University Extension Service, estimates about half of the soybeans have been harvested so far in Clay and Dickinson counties. He says yields are coming in less than expected, though.
While most of the activity so far has been with soybeans, Kassel urges producers to keep a close eye on the corn. If damage from second generation corn borers is observed, Kassel says producers should pick that corn as soon as possible once they’re done with the soybeans.
Kassel says this past weekend’s killing freeze was a good thing in that it should help bring down moisture levels.
