(Hartley)– Welthy Albright, who her daughter says was recognized as the 10th oldest person in Iowa, died Tuesday at the age of 108.
Albright was born on a farm south of Hartley in 1896. Her daughter, Virginia Pflanz of Sioux City, says she died at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, where she had moved when she was 102.
Pflanz says until her health deteriorated, Albright helped bake cookied in the nursing home kitchen and helped make the paper decorations that brightened the hallways and windows.
In 1918, she married Freeman Albright. After he returned from World War I, his parents built the young couple a home on their farm near Hartley, where they lived for 40 years.
In an interview on her 106th birthday, Albright said she and her husband liked to go to dances in the area.
