(Spirit Lake)– Charges have been filed against a Hartley man in connection with an alleged altercation early Thursday at the Marquee in Spirit Lake.
22-year-old Rage Abdillahi Mohamud has been charged with going armed with intent, a class “D” felony; and assault, a serious misdemeanor.
Spirit Lake Police Chief Jon Martyr says officers were called to the Marquee shortly before 1:00 a.m. on a report of a person armed with a knife.
Martyr says witnesses stated that there had been a physical altercation inside the establishment, Security broke it up and those allegedly involved were escorted to the parking lot, where another altercation broke out and one person allegedly brandished a knife.
Martyr says a number of people were interviewed, and several were arrested for minor offenses such as public intoxication and disorderly conduct. A butterfly knife was recovered in the parking lot.
Martyr says the dispute may have stemmed from a recent burglary in O’Brien county.
Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Arnolds Park, Okoboji and Milford Police Departments, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
