Harkin Seeks Presidential Disaster Declaration

November 22, 2014

(Washington, D.C.)– Iowa Senator Tom Harkin is urging President Bush to declare eight northern Iowa counties as disaster areas.

Between September 14th and September 21st, residents in Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Mitchell, O’Brien, Palo Alto and Winnebago counties were hit hard by heavy rains and flooding.

Governor Vilsack has declared the counties as state disaster areas; now, Senator Harkin is seeking a Presidential Disaster Declaration. That would allow for individual assistance to be granted to residents living in those counties.

Harkin sent the letter to the President Monday.
