H-LP Bond Election Spurs Controversy

November 23, 2014

(Lake Park)– Voters in the Harris-Lake Park school district head to the polls Tuesday to decide the fate of a 4.3 million dollar bond issue for a new seventh through 12th grade school.

The proposal has sparked a good deal of controversy recently. A group opposed to the measure, “Protect Our Local Schools”, is critical of the district taking on new debt in light of declining enrollment and cuts from the state. Those in favor of the measure view the project as an investment in the future…saying it’s vital for Harris-Lake Park to have up-to-date facilities if the district is to remain viable in the future.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the fire stations in both Harris and Lake Park.
