Ground Broken On Spencer Fire Station Project

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Construction of Spencer’s new fire station is officially underway.

Firefighters, city officials and the public gathered at the Spencer Fire Station Thursday evening for an official groundbreaking ceremony for the new fire station.

Spencer Mayor Reynold Peterson says a new fire station is long over-due.

Fire Chief Doug Duncan thanked everyone who has been a part of the planning stage of the project…including past and present city council members.

The project will be completed in two phases. Duncan says the first phase, demolition of the old gas station adjacent to the fire station, will begin soon.

Total cost of the project is estimated at 1.7 million dollars. Duncan says they are hopeful to have the new facility up and running by next spring…with a dedication ceremony planned for next June to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the 1931 Spencer fire.
