Ground Broken On New Gym At SLHS

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday evening on a new 2.2 million dollar gymnasium at Spirit Lake High School.

Superintendent Tim Grieves says the project has already gone out for bids, which will be opened by the school board at a meeting July 12th. Dirt moving and actual construction is expected to start a short time later.

The 100 by 128 square foot facility is being built onto the northeast side of the existing High School.

SLHS Activities Director Terry Miller said he’s proud of what’s been accomplished by the district over the seven years he’s been here. He thanked the community, school board and Grieves for the progress.

B.J Mayer, a coach at Spirit Lake High School, says the new facility will go a long way toward further improving the climate and quality of programs.

Tuesday’s groundbreaking culminated months of planning for the project by a committee of school and community representatives.
