(Spirit Lake)– A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday for a major expansion project at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Administrators and board members turned over the first shovel-fulls of dirt on the project. It will consist of remodeling existing patient rooms into single occupancy rooms, along with constructing 18 new ones. A new parking lot is also being constructed east across the street from the hospital to compensate for parking space the expansion project will take up in the existing parking lot.
Brown Construction Company of Sioux City is the General Contractor on the hospital expansion project, which has a price tag of nearly 4.2 million dollars. The steel bid was awarded to Christensen Construction of Estherville for 107,730-dollars. Gregg Construction of Sibley is in charge of the 154,200-dollar parking lot project.
