Great Places Planning Meeting To Be Held In Okoboji

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Many people have long believed this part of northwest Iowa is one of the state’s greatest places. Now, work is underway to make that official.

Abby Larson of the Okoboji Tourism Association says area residents are invited to participate in a planning session to develop a proposal to have the “Great Waters and Great Prairies of Clay and Dickinson Counties” designated as one of three pilot projects in the state’s new Iowa Great Places Initiative.

The planning session will be held Tuesday, August 9th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Lakes Art Center in Okoboji. Two trainers with the Iowa Great Places initiative will be on hand to assist with the development of a proposal. The deadline for Iowa Great Places proposals is September 1st.

Over 145 Iowa communities have expressed interest in being selected as one of the three pilot Iowa Great Places Communities. While no direct funding assistance is provided to pilot communities, a wide range of state departments and programs have indicated they’ll commit resources and collaborate to implement the activities proposed by the designated three pilot places.
