(Peterson)– A large grass fire Tuesday in rural Buena Vista county has turned fatal.
Buena Vista County Sheriff Chuck Eddy says his office received a 9-1-1 call around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday about a large grass fire two miles southwest of Linn Grove. The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and the Sioux Rapids and Peterson fire departments were called to the scene. Upon arrival they found a large area of grass land and a storage shed on fire.
Once the blaze was distinguished, the body of a 77-year-old man was discovered in one of the burned out areas. The man’s name and other information isn’t being released pending the outcome of an autopsy, which is being performed today (Wednesday).
The State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Buena Vista county Medical Examiner are assisting in the investigation.
