Grant To Fund New Park In Emmetsburg

November 23, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– The city of Emmetsburg is getting a new park thanks to a state grant.

The city has received a 75-thousand dollar Resource Enhancement And Protection (REAP) Grant. It will be used to develop a two acre park along Five Island Lake.

The land was purchased by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation from the late Gene Sewell…a former school janitor who wanted the land preserved. The park will be named Sewell Park, in his honor.

The foundation held the property until August when the city purchased it with the grant.
