(Spirit Lake)– The Okoboji-Spirit Lake Good Neighbor Fund has once again exceeded its fundraising goal.
Officials say more than 75-thousand dollars will be awarded to 13 local charities as a result.
The Good Neighbor Fund has been informed it will be the beneficiary of a significant gift from the Kathleen Westenberger estate. Officials say they plan to invest the donation and use the income from it for Good Neighbor Fund purposes.
Officials say had it not been for 27,650-dollars in public service donations from the court system, the fund would have fallen short of its goal. Those donations have come under fire as a result of recent articles in the Des Moines Register.
