(Spirit Lake)– The Girl’s District track meet for today (Monday) in Spirit Lake is still on.
An ongoing series of threats against certain female athletes in Spirit Lake has had many people on edge recently. School officials say the written threats have been going on over the past nine months or so and had recently escalated.
For the first time, a threat earlier this month targeted a specific event…the Sheryl Maahs Relays. It stated “there would be an accident”. A number of schools that had been invited to the meet pulled out, and school officials wound up calling the meet off.
Officials say no new threats have been received since then, and Superintendent Tim Grieves says the district meet is still on for Spirit Lake. He says there will additional security at the event.
Spirit Lake police say there’s nothing new in their investigation into the threats.
