Gillette Grove Teen Charged In Theft Of Pickup

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Gillette Grove teen is in custody after being arrested for allegedly stealing a truck from the South Clay school over the weekend.

Rod Dillard of Dickens contacted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office around 6:40 p.m. Sunday to report his pickup had been stolen from the parking lot of the Gillette Grove school. At about the same time, deputies were told about a male trying to hitchhike from Gillette Grove to Spencer just prior to the theft of the truck.

Around 8:00 p.m. a deputy spotted the stolen truck behind a business in the 10th block of east fifth street in Spencer. Surveillance of the truck was then set up. About an hour later, three people left a nearby theatre, got into the pickup and drove off. The truck was stopped and the three occupants were taken into custody.

The driver, 18-year-old Kyle Gustin of Gillette Grove, was charged with second degree theft…a class “B” felony; and driving while revoked…a serious misdemeanor. Gustin was also wanted on three active arrest warrants for contempt of court and failure to appear. He was booked into the Clay county jail on bond of 35-thousand dollars.

A 16-year-old Spencer male that was in the truck was arrested after deputies found marijuana in his pockets. He was released to the custody of his mother. A 14-year-old Spencer male that was also in the truck was not criminally charged. He was released to the custody of his mother.

Authorities say more arrests are likely as the narcotics investigation continues.
