(Undated)– A southwest Minnesota man was among those arrested Thursday as the result of an investigation into an illegal gambling ring in Minnesota and Iowa.
John Sather of Round Lake, Minnesota is one of eight people arrested in the operation, which authorities say involved college and professional sports.
None of the Iowans arrested are from our area.
The man authorities believe is the ringleader of the operation, Robert Derryberry of Norwalk and his ex-wife, remain at large.
Three of those arrested were charged with bookmaking and ongoing criminal conduct; five were charged with illegal gambling.
Officials say millions of dollars changed hands in the operation since 1999.
Most of those arrested, including Sather, are prominent businessmen. One of them is a high school football coach in Indianola.
