(Lake Park)– Those who worked to support the Harris-Lake Park school’s application for funding through Vision Iowa’s Community Attraction and Tourism program say it’s wrong to be dragging them into Dickinson county’s gambling debate.
They say a comment made at a recent public meeting on gaming that money for CAT grants they and other local projects received came from gambling proceeds isn’t true. They contend the money for the Community Attraction and Tourism grants comes from the state’s settlement with tobacco companies instead.
Organizers of the Harris-Lake Park project say they went out of their way to make sure that was the case before they applied for the funding.
